1/14: at my sister-in-laws baby shower – so cute!

Sleepwalking

Jan 10th, 2012 by Karah | 3

One thing I want to really try to do this year is blog more.  Sure,  I did my weekly photo posts last year, but there were months that went by that I didn’t post anything else.  I want to write down things that my kids have done so that I’ll have a record of their crazy antics someday.  Sure, these stories might bring them lifelong embarrassment, but that’s what moms are for – right?

****************************************************************

G started sleepwalking pretty much as soon as he moved from his crib to his toddler bed.  It would always happen while Aaron & I were still awake so we could steer him back to bed with minimal damage (at least I think that’s when it would happen – who knows, maybe he was in the kitchen eating ice cream at 3 am.  I guess we’ll never know!).  And 9 times out of 10, it happened when he needed to pee.

It took a little bit of trial and error for us to get his sleepwalking figured out.  At first it just kind of freaked me out … he wouldn’t respond to me and he’d just kind of stare off into space – weird!!!  But after a while, it became an endless source of comedy.  Some nights he’d walk out into the family and just plop himself on the couch and start watching TV with us at 11 pm like there was nothing strange about that at all.  Other nights he’d walk into the kitchen like he wanted a snack.  He would usually respond, but not the right way.  “G – are you awake?”  “Yes.” “Why are you out here?” “Yes.”  “How old are you?”  “I don’t know.”   One night he walked out and developed some bizarre fear of the vacuum cleaner.  He kept pointing at it, not talking, and trying to hide from it.  SO so funny.

But most of the time he would walk out of his room while trying to pull his pants down to pee.  And he’d be asleep so he’d walk into whatever room his sweet little dreams told him was the right one and he would just go!  Aaron & I were constantly shouting “G’s sleepwalking!  Hurry!!!” as we would run to steer him in the right direction, lest he mistake our bed for the toilet.

There are a few funny instances involving G and his sleepwalking that stick out in my mind in particular.  One day, when G was probably 4, I was doing dishes while the kids were napping.  G walked into the kitchen and I thought he was just up from his nap and was ready for his afternoon snack.  I heard the snack cupboard door open and then heard this strange noise.

I couldn’t figure out what it was, so I turned around…

And there G was.

Standing in front of the open snack cupboard.

Peeing.

Into the cupboard.

I think it took me a second to really register what was going on before I yelled his name.  And as soon as I did, he jumped and it was like you could see the lights turn on in his eyes and he looked at me and looked down like he had no clue what was going on or how he got there.  I think I just might have peed a little myself from laughing so hard (and then the laughter turned to tears as I threw away box after box of contaminated food.  At least the stuff in tupperware was safe!).

Soon after that, he had another naptime incident.  Only this time, he peed into the big tub that held all of the matchbox cars.  And with three boys, you can only imagine how many cars were in there.

And then there was the night when R started yelling and I ran into the room to find G standing there with no pants on looking utterly bewildered and R standing there looking shocked and disgusted saying “G was PEEING on me!!!!!!!”  And of course the next morning, G had no recollection of this ever happening.

For some reason, moving to this house has pretty much ended his sleepwalking days.  I don’t know if it is the action of having to actually climb from his bunk bed that wakes him up or what, but he has only sleep-walked (that we know of!) 2 or 3 times since we’ve lived here.  And I’ve gotta say – I kind of miss the entertainment!

I can’t believe I’m kicking off my THIRD year doing Project 365. While it’s not perfect and haven’t managed to actually do all 365 pictures yet, I still love the pictures that I do get.

And hopefully this year I’ll number my pictures correctly. *blush*

1/1: I thought this was an appropriate picture for our New Year as we brought in 2012 with the stomach flu running rampant in our house and this trash can spent some quality time with a few of the kids.  What fun…

1/2: R doing what he does best … pouting!

1/3: my grandparents came out for a visit from Arizona today and we had a fun day with them!

1/4: we met some friends at the park today!  It is ridiculously warm for January (87 degrees today!).

1/5:  Our friends are here visiting from England so we spent some time with them today.  And we got our annual “Big T, Little T” picture :)

1/6: Today my sister-in-law and nieces came over to play.  They wanted to try out Rock Band.  My niece was really getting into drumming…

1/7: I had to take a new self-portrait for a scrapbooking challenge that I’m doing.  So there I am!

Bad Dream

A few weeks ago I found this old video of R when he was about 2 1/2 years old.  He was such a hilarious, articulate little guy at such a young age!  I couldn’t stop laughing as I watched this and still laugh every time I see it.  It’s a little long, but I hope you enjoy my crazy little kid. :)

The LAST WEEK OF THE YEAR!!!

And this week I had a horrifying realization….

My numbering has been off.

Since August.

SINCE AUGUST!!!!!!!!!

As I was about to number photo 363, I realized there were three days left of the year.  But only two numbers left to use.  And it wasn’t a leap year.  So after some investigating, I discovered the sad truth: my numbering is all jacked up.  DANG IT!  But I’m not going back and changing it now.  So from mid-August and beyond, just look at every picture and add a number on.  Except for the last three days of the year … those are right.

12/24: Christmas Eve!  The boys had been begging for some Angry Birds toys and my super crafty sister sewed up these suckers.  The boys were (obviously) SO excited!!

12/25: Christmas morning!  My parents always blocked our access to the gifts with a toilet paper barrier so we’ve carried on the tradition :)   Here are the kids busting through the line!

12/26: Our annual family tradition – Gingerbread House Building!

12/27: T’s great-grandparents took all of the girl cousins to Build-a-Bear for their Christmas gifts.  We had a great time!

12/28: Our fun little gingerbread house village :)

12/29: And today was the day that I realized my colossal mistake.  *sigh*.  But isn’t my new clock cute??

12/30: My mom gave us this super cute sign for Christmas … I LOVE IT!

12/31:  HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Here’s G all ready to bring in 2012 armed with sparkling cider, noise makers, and silly string.  :)

See you next year!  ;)

12/17: My 3 beautiful sisters-in-law at the one on the left’s “surprise” birthday party :)

12/18: No pic!

12/19: Jeez – I really slacked off this month.

12/20: Making cookies for the kids’ Christmas parties at school!

12/21: Last day of school before Christmas break!  And it was pajama day for the first graders :)

12/22: R & T got the biggest kick out of the way R’s ears glowed when the sun was shining behind him!  He made me take about 5 pictures until we got the perfect one.  HAHA.

12/23: My iron chef in training.  R always loves helping me in the kitchen – tonight he helped me flatten the chicken.  :)

12/10: We spent the day at Grandpa & Grandma Great’s house and had a great time.  Here’s T helping Grandma get dinner ready :)

12/11: Today was decorate the tree day!  I always separate out the kids’ ornaments before we start – this is G’s pile.  He gets gingerbread men from us every year, hence all the gingerbread men.  LOL.

12/12: No pic today!

12/13: The beautiful view of the mountains first thing in the morning from our front yard.

12/14: Today we were over by the main grass area in our community.  G was riding the scooter back and forth on the street.  All of the sudden he started screaming “A golf ball hit my head!!!!” and as soon as i got him to put his hands down, I saw this amazing lump!  He wouldn’t believe me that it wasn’t gushing blood so I took a picture to show him.  Poor kid!

Day 350

12/15: I was just taking some pics of some clocks that I liked for my Christmas list :)

12/16: Oops – no pic again!

11/26: I had a stroke of genius tonight and buckled in the pizza so they wouldn’t slide around!  BRILLIANT!  LOL

11/28: just playing around with my camera :)
